What is Vape Wattage and Volts? Why do they matter?
Have you ever found yourself confused when looking for a new vape and seeing wattage and volts in the description? Or maybe you’ve seen them on your device but had no idea what they meant. If this is the case, then this article is for you. We will explain what wattage and voltage is and why it’s important vaping terms.
What is vape wattage?
You may be wondering “what does wattage mean in terms of vaping?” Put simply, wattage in your device is the amount of power used by your vaping device. By adjusting your vape wattage, the temperature produced in the coil to heat the e-liquid is customised, allowing you to fine-tune your vaping experience to your personal preferences.
More technically, a watt describes the rate of power flow. When one amp flows through an electrical difference of one volt, its result is expressed in terms of watts. ""W"" is the symbol for watt or watts.
Watts are derived from the formula V x A = W. So, with your vape, the more watts, the more power is being put into the coil and as a result the higher the temperature it will be.
This is important because the more watts, or temperature you put into a coil the bigger the clouds will be than your vape produces. It will also affect the flavour, with more power often more of the flavour is evident.
What is a vape Volt?
Volt represents the ""potential difference between two points of a conducting wire carrying a constant current of 1 ampere when the power dissipated between these points is equal to 1 watt."" The symbol for volt is ""V."" Simplified, this means that voltage, compared to water pressure through pipes, is the speed of the electrons as they pass a point within the circuit.
Confused? Well, volts are basically a measure of how much energy potential there is from one point to another.
For vaping purposes, higher volts give you the ability to increase the power (watts) used in your vaping. When combined with a lower ohm atomizer, you’ll be able to create huge clouds of vapour, if that is how you prefer to vape
Vape Watts are the actual power being used by a vaping device. Think of it as the end goal for your vaping device. If you have enough voltage, you can increase the watts being produced. This generally goes hand in hand with volts since you need higher voltage (energy potential) to create more watts in your device.
What is the difference Between Watts and Volts in terms of vaping?
Vape Watts and volts are not independent of each other. Vape Watts cannot exist without volts since they are the product of a combination of volts and amps.
The only thing you really need to worry about is that your volts are high enough to let you set the watts to whatever setting you want. The more watts, the more cloud and flavour you will get out of your vape.
With that in mind, remember most vaping manufacturers will include a recommended watt setting for each coil they produce, so make sure you always check this before setting up your device.
